It’s that time of year again! As Spring progresses into Summer, new life is springing up around every corner. With it come the butterflies and hummingbirds! We know many love to enjoy the annual migrations, so why not draw them to your doorstep? Below are several options that you can add to your landscape to provide food for our fluttery friends.

Milkweed
Dill
Fennel
A Few flowers that attract butterflies and hummingbirds: *Note- Hummingbirds are attracted to red blooming plants. Any additions that carry a red bloom will also draw them to your landscape.
Lantana
This evergreen plant comes in an array of colors including yellow, red/orange, purple, white, pink, and a combination of colors. Different varieties will either be trailing or shrub-like in growth. It can handle full Texas heat and requires very little care. Perennial.
Verbena
These beautiful blooms also come in an array of colors, generally including red, pink, purple, white, and peach. Very hardy and requires little attention. Used as a perennial groundcover.
Butterfly Bush
This beautiful shrub, as its name suggests, is perfect for all nectar seeking critters. It is a fast growing deciduous shrub with long arching branches that fill with plumes of purple flowers in the late Spring and Summer. It can take full sun and typically can get 4-8′ tall and 3-4′ wide depending on pruning schedule.
Privet
This easy evergreen becomes a wonderful blooming buffet in the late Spring and Summer when it fills with white plumes of flowers. It cam be maintained as a hedge or shrub depending on pruning schedule. Once established, it can handle full sun and low water. Pictured is the variegated variety.
Esperanza
This beautiful shrub comes into full bloom in the late Spring and Summer. It fills with either orange or yellow blooms, and attracts both hummingbirds and butterflies. It can handle Texas heat with little issue, and requires low care once established, Deciduous, protection is needed in a freeze.
Honeysuckle
This vines come in a wide variety of colors and selections. We current have Pink flame honeysuckle and Japanese honeysuckle in stock. These vines love a good shady location where they can be trained up a fence or trellis to provide beautiful blooms all Spring and Summer. Requires very low maintenance.
Jasmine
As with honeysuckle, we carry a variety of jasmines. Currently, we have the confederate star (white bloom) and the Carolina (yellow blooms). These beautiful vines can easily be trained onto a trellis or fence, and provide an array of color all Spring and Summer long. Pictured is the confederate jasmine.
Petunias
These bright annuals come in almost every color. Perfect for container gardening or in your beds, they prefer morning sun. (The new Wave petunias can handle more light.) They are sure to draw butterflies to your garden.
Zinnias
These bright annuals also come in a bright mixture of colors. They prefer morning light, and are perfect for container gardening or in flower beds.
